There are guides available from Management Consulted and other sources to help you get ready for the test.

There are a few different steps involved in the recruiting process, and it depends on whether you're an undergraduate or an advanced degree candidate. Although both types of candidates can follow the same process, there are important differences that each stage must address. First, choose which office you'd like to attend.

Interview process

Four parts make up the McKinsey Advanced Degree Interview. The interview is divided into two parts. The first involves a two-hour process that focuses around a case study as well as a personal story. Successful applicants will then be invited to the second round. It involves a case and advanced problem-solving tests.

After you've filled out the application, you'll need to submit it. Keep your resume current with any relevant work experience. The earlier you submit your resume, the better. It is a good idea also to double-check everything prior to submitting it.

Requirements

McKinsey & Company offers a variety consulting jobs, including associates as well as business analysts and consultants. Each of these positions involves applying expertise in a particular industry to help organizations succeed. An advanced degree in a relevant area is required to apply.

McKinsey seeks candidates with exceptional problem-solving abilities and intellectual horsepower. People with a PhD, JD, or MD are usually well qualified. Company values intellectual curiosity, industry expertise, and leadership skills. Although a PhD may not be required to become a consultant, it can give them an advantage in the eyes of clients.

FAQ

How can I select a consultant?

There are three main things to keep in mind:

  1. Experience - How much experience does this consultant have? Is she a beginner? Intermediate? Advanced? Expert? Does her resume reflect the knowledge and skills she has?
  2. Education – What did this person learn at school? Did he/she study any relevant courses after graduating from high school? Are we able to see evidence of his/her learning through the way he/she writes
  3. Personality – Do we like this person/person? Would you want this person to work for you?
  4. These questions will help us determine if the consultant is right to meet our needs. If you do not have the answer, it is worth interviewing the candidate to find out more.

Do I need legal advice?

Yes! Yes! Many consultants create contracts without consulting clients. This can cause problems later on. For example, what happens to the contract if the client terminates it before the consultant has completed? What happens if your consultant doesn't follow the contract deadlines?

It's best to consult with a lawyer to avoid potential problems.

What is a consultant?

A consultant is someone who offers services to others. It's not a job title. A consultant is a role that helps others achieve their goals. You do this by helping them understand their options and helping them make the right choices.

Consultants are experts at finding solutions to problems and challenges that arise when working on projects. Consultants can also offer advice and guidance regarding how to implement these solutions.

A consultant should be able to answer questions about anything related to business, technology, finance, law, management, leadership, strategy, operations, customer service, human resources, etc.

What types of contracts exist for consultants?

When they are hired, most consultants sign standard employment contracts. These agreements outline how long the consultant will work for the client, what he/she will get paid, and other important details.

Contracts specify the area of expertise that the consultant will specialize in and the amount they will be paid. For example, the agreement may say that the consultant will provide training sessions, workshops, webinars, seminars, etc.

Sometimes the consultant will simply agree to complete a task within a certain timeframe.

Many consultants sign independent contractor arrangements in addition to standard employment contracts. These agreements allow the consultant freedom to work without being paid.

What tax do I have to pay on consulting income?

Yes. You will have to pay taxes on your consulting profits. The amount depends on how much you earn per year.

If you are self employed, you can claim expenses in addition to your salary. This includes rent and childcare.

However, you can't deduct interest payments for loans, vehicle depreciation or the cost to purchase equipment.

If you earn less than PS10,000 per year, 25% can be claimed back.

However, even if your earnings exceed this threshold you may still be subject to tax depending on whether or not you are a contractor or an employee.

Employers are taxed via PAYE (pay as your earn), and contractors through VAT.
